Children’s Clinic-Based Intensive Outpatient Program (CBIOP)

Overview

Our Children’s Clinic-Based Intensive Outpatient Program (CBIOP) serves as a bridge for children and youth who have been recently discharged from inpatient or partial psychiatric hospitalization, as well as a higher level of care for children and youth who need more support than can be received through a standard clinic level of care. Our multidisciplinary team and age-based tracks offer a unique and evidence-based approach to intensive outpatient services, with the aim of meeting the needs and goals of each individual.

Our Team

At Greater Mental Health, CBIOP is a holistic program, where treatment is coordinated with a multi-disciplinary team in order to best connect with the child or youth and provide them with the necessary supports. Our team consists of psychotherapists, youth peer/peer specialists, family support specialists, Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC), nurses, psychiatric prescribers, and a school liaison (guidance and SW) when appropriate.

CB-IOP Services

Greater Mental Health’s CBIOP services are offered through two tracks to ensure the delivery of age-appropriate content and support for those that will be seeking treatment. The first track focuses on children (ages 7 through 12) and their families, and the second track will focus on adolescents (ages 13 through 17) and their families. Both tracks have rolling admission, run for a duration of six weeks, and provide services after school hours to allow for school engagement.

In order to best meet each youth’s individual treatment needs, our team begins discharge planning at the time of admission and updates the plan regularly throughout the treatment program. Both treatment programs provide ongoing health monitoring and psychiatric mediation management as well as a range of evidence-based treatment services, including individual, family, and group therapies. The modalities used for treatment in both tracks include:

  • Individual Counseling Modalities
    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – with a focus on suicide prevention
    • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Individual and Group
    • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – will be used in group therapy sessions
    • Encompass (individual and family)
    • Seeking Safety – will be used in individual and group sessions
